Pastor Zachary Benkert
Pastor Zachary Benkert, his wife Vanessa, and their four children, Emmaline (13), Josiah (11), Eliana (8), and Hezekiah (7), are excited and thankful to begin this new chapter with Trinity Lutheran Church. Zachary grew up in Brant, Michigan, in Saginaw County, while Vanessa is originally from Bay City and later moved to Saginaw. Although both were raised in the Christian faith, they did not become Lutheran until they began attending an LCMS congregation together during their engagement. Through adult instruction, they were confirmed in the faith and later married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Looking back, they are thankful for the pastors, teachers, and church members the Lord used to strengthen their faith and eventually lead Zachary toward pastoral ministry. Before seminary, Zachary worked as a chemical plant operator in Hemlock, Michigan, for 13 years, and Vanessa has worked as a registered nurse for the past 15 years. Before moving to Fort Wayne, their family enjoyed life on a small hobby farm where they raised chickens, gardened, and kept honeybees. As a family, the Benkerts enjoy camping, especially trips to Silver Lake Sand Dunes, reading, history, spending time outdoors and simply being together. They are looking forward to meeting everyone at Trinity, getting to know the congregation, and serving alongside God’s people as together they receive Christ’s gifts through His Word and Sacraments.
Deb Cheyne - Office Manager
Deb Cheyne took over as Office Manager in June 2023. Deb was in church ministry for over 20 years. She enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 adult daughters, and 6 grandchildren. Deb also enjoys sewing, crafting and reading. Deb attends Lakeshore Lutheran Fellowship in Spring Lake. Deb is on the LWML Lakeshore Zone board as Vice-President.
